Tanner's Lane

Historical visualization showing a mill and tanners' houses, located outside the city walls (because of the stench), in the 15th century AD in the city of Freiburg. Created for a large museum display, about 3m wide, the image required a high level of detail. You can see the workbenches on which the raw hides are scraped clean, the entrenched vats where they are tanned and the well aired upper floors and attics, where pelts and leather are being dried. The foreground shows linen being bleached by the sun.
The layout of the area is barely recognizable today, but the monastery buildings behind the city wall still exist and, as a nice touch, house the museum in which this image is now being displayed.
