Changing Landscape in Antiquity
Changing Landscape in Antiquity

The first image depicts a prehistoric forest, relatively undisturbed by human activity. The second image features a Roman village (vicus). The arrival of Romans was accompanied by intensive logging and agriculture. With the fall of the Roman Empire the forest returns with some Germanic farms scattered close to the Roman ruins.
Though inspired by the Enz valley in southern Germany the series is intended as general illustration of a landscape changing through the ages.
