Migration Period Settlement 3 - Interiors

The interior of the excavated "Grubenhaus" or pit-house of a Migration Period farm near Paderborn, Germany. The images highlight some features of this type of building (like the sunken floor and the thatched roof) as well as the most important finds: Glass beakers from the 5th century AD. These beakers were conical, so we showed three possible ways they could be stored: Lying down, with a (hypothetical) wooden fixture or upside down. If some sort of mount or fixture did not exist (and none have been found), you would've had to empty your glass before you could put it down.

Images are frames from a 2 minute animation.
